1947 Packard Clipper Deluxe - Modified
Formerly owned by local hot rod legend Jerry Abramson, this extensively customized classic was built approximately 10 years ago with a complete frame-off restoration and a high standard of craftsmanship. The body features extensive custom metalwork, including all-steel floors, rockers, and tail pan fabricated from 18-gauge steel with steel-tube substructures. The body is channeled 2 inches, representing a tremendous amount of custom work. The front and rear tail pans were removed, bumpers moved inward 3 inches, and the front end completely restyled. Headlights were moved outward 3 inches and forward 1 inch. Door vent windows were removed and replaced with larger, one-piece door glass and power windows. Custom handmade rocker trim was added, while all other original exterior stainless trim was polished and fitted to perfection. Every design detail was carefully created to complement the body's contours. The original frame was replaced with a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis two-door frame, providing a solid, modern driving experience with improved ride and handling rather than simply adding a front clip. The Mercury frame features a perimeter design with double-tube crossmembers added for superior strength. Power comes from a 460ci V8 paired with a C6 automatic transmission. The engine is completely stock and reliable, and the transmission is also stock with a mild shift kit. The 1978 Mercury emergency brake system, brake pedal, and booster assemblies were retained from the donor car. Additional upgrades include 11.5-inch front disc brakes and a Ford 9-inch rear end with 2.75 highway gears. The exhaust system features custom-bent 2½-inch dual exhaust with Cherry Bomb mufflers. The interior is fully customized throughout, including the trunk area. Interior features include Classic gauges, an odometer showing 11,500 miles, American Autowire wiring harness throughout, Vintage heater and defroster, tilt steering column, electric wipers, power seat, console with cup holders, and a CD sound system with four speakers. The exterior presents beautifully, with arrow-straight paint and bodywork, all-new glass, new window felts and rubber seals, tires and wheels in like-new condition, and a custom polished grille insert. Recently developed engine knock. The car is priced at approximately half its value because of this issue. For someone mechanically inclined, it is described as an approachable repair.
