1985 Porsche 928S Coupe Superb Like New

Offered for sale is a stunning, low mileage Porsche 928S coupe, appearing new with a flawless Pewter Metallic finish, unblemished inside and outside, and carefully maintained and serviced by the same owner since 1998.
Showing just under 41,000 actual miles on the odometer, this unique Porsche DOHC V8 coupe would be a collector’s dream, but to truly enjoy this car, it should be driven.
Not only is it aesthetically impeccable, the mechanical and electrical systems are equally outstanding – with no deterioration over nearly 40 years in service.
There have been no modifications to this car, and, of course, its service history is intact.
The tires are fresh, everything works, and there are no apologies for any aspect of this outstanding, well optioned, coupe.

Here is what Hemmings Motor News has to say about the unique Porsche Model 928: The 928 was so different from what dedicated Porsche enthusiasts expected their favorite marque’s flagship model to be. What was this, Germany’s answer to the Chevrolet Corvette? A V-8 engine mounted in the wrong end of the car! And it was water-cooled… and could be paired with a Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission! This brilliantly engineered, luxuriously equipped grand tourer was unique among Porsches, and would enjoy an impressive 18-year production run. The Stuttgart automaker took a huge chance with the 928. After all, this model was meant to replace the 911, that ultimate evolution of the original Volkswagen-based, air-cooled boxer-engine Porsche sports car. Upon its introduction at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show, the 928 revealed it had more in common with the recently revealed 924 than the venerable 911.

Of course, the influential shape of the 928 was fresh for Porsche too, with a hatchback adding practicality to the 2+2 seating layout. The instrument binnacle tilted with the steering wheel to optimize visibility, while Op Art, checkered-flag-inspired Pasha fabric upholstery turned heads, and back seat passengers had rear-folding visors to shield the sun through the hatch. The smooth, clean exterior lines–rendered in corrosion-resistant aluminum and galvanized steel–were 180-degrees from the then-fashionable wedge shapes worn by other sports cars. Color-matched 5-mph bumpers blended into the body so well as to virtually disappear, while exposed pop-up headlamps both bowed to fashion and stood it on its head. Various front and rear spoiler designs would enhance the car’s function and form through the years, and that at the end of its line, the 928’s familiar silhouette still felt relevant, spoke volumes.

This car’s transaxle driveline virtually guaranteed balanced, vice-free handling thanks to the 50:50 weight distribution afforded by the engine up front, transmission in the middle, and differential in the rear. Also contributing to the 928’s fine manners was its racing-inspired suspension design, which traded the 911’s torsion bars for coil springs over tubular shocks and included the clever Weissach axle rear wishbone setup that improved stability with passive rear-wheel steering. Four-wheel disc brakes, in later years assisted by ABS, originally peeked through iconic “phone dial” alloy wheels. The durable all-aluminum V-8 under the 928’s hood was subject to steady development through the years. Initially a SOHC design displacing 4.5 liters, it made 219 hp in U.S. trim (240-hp elsewhere) and could be mated to a 3-speed automatic or 5-speed manual.

The new S designation, appearing in 1983, denoted a 4.7-liter, 234-hp version with an available 4-speed automatic. A major revision for 1985 added a second camshaft per bank, the DOHC engine then displacing 5.0-liters and producing 288 hp; the auto was then standard, the manual available at no cost. The Porsche 928S is steadily increasing in collector interest and value.

Serious buyers are invited to come to Las Vegas to see and drive this Porsche 928S. It is a truly amazing, responsive, comfortable, and attractive package. This is a private sale, so no financing is offered, and no trades will be considered. Payment in full, only in cash or by bank to bank wire transfer, will be accepted in exchange for the clear title. If this car is kept in its current condition, it is sure to be a solid collector car investment.
