1962 Chevrolet Impala SS Resto Mod

One of the Finest 1962 Impala Resto-mod on the Planet, Starting at the Impala's foundation the chassis replacing the standard-duty stock and ordering special-order chassis complete with CNC machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum upper and lower control arms and matching C6 spindles. The coil over shock absorbers sourced from Penske Racing Shocks damp the un-sprung weight of one-off EVOD billet aluminum wheels shod with Nitto NT555 245/45R18 tires in front and 295/45R18 in the rear. The sidewalls on the Nitto tires were sanded smooth of all markings. Brakes at all four corners are Baer six-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors; a Kugel 90-degree brake pedal with hidden master-cylinder pressurizes stainless steel brake lines.

Moving to body modifications, the stock floor pans where cut out and heavy, 12-gauge floors were custom fabricated and welded into place. Further body modifications include new rear quarter-panels fabricated with a power hammer. The rocker panels were dropped, front and rear bumpers tucked and pinched, with the center ribbed sections machined out of steel and welded into the bumpers. Full front and rear belly pans, grille cut apart, it was re-flanged with an extra row added to the bottom of the grille. Headlight bezels were cut up, re-flanged, and added on the bottom to blend into the valance panel. With the 1962 Impala fully assembled in bare metal and the trunk, hood, and door gaps perfectly adjusted completed final prep and sprayed it Fawn Mist using Glasurit paint.

For the Impala's upholstery and sound system. The interior design as being all about capturing the essence of a 1959-1963 Chevrolet Impala while incorporating modern luxury installing the sound system. The satellite radio head is a Kenwood backed with seven Rockford Fosgate speakers; the odd number seven being one subwoofer tucked away in a custom cabinet. The other six speakers hide behind pressed steel grilles covered with perforated leather. Connolly leather is found in use throughout, including a pair of scratch-built bucket seats made to mimic original Impala fare. German square-weave carpeting covers DEI Boom Mat soundproofing. Each door panel features 1959 Impala armrests with custom billet trim and the headliner is done in cloth.

Wiring the car using a Coach Control wiring pane. The stock-style A/C vents supply ice-cold air conditioning from a Vintage Air unit. Custom dashboard adding a third gauge pod and fitted with custom-designed Classic Instruments that includes a 140-mph speedometer. Many pounds of billet aluminum chips went flying in to the interior and exterior trim was made for the 1962. Numerous parts throughout the car, including one-off exterior trim, door handles, taillights, hood hinges with hidden gas shocks, and machined exhaust tips, plus a shrunken steering wheel fashioned to look like a stock 1962 Impala steering wheel. The tilt steering column is from Ididit.

Under the hood there's 623 hp on tap, and in its place an all-aluminum World Products 509-inch W motor bore and stroke is 4,370 by 4.250 with 10.4:1 Ross pistons. Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads bridged with a one-off billet aluminum intake manifold with modern induction with computerized ignition is MegaSquirt fuel injection and ECU. Fuel capacity for the Cal Automotive Creations fabricated gas tank is 20 gallons.

The entire exhaust system, starting with mandrel-bent headers into 3-inch stainless steel pipes dumping into dual MagnaFlow stainless steel mufflers. Cooling the engine is handled via a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine system driving an Edelbrock aluminum water pump furthering coolant through a Mattson radiator. A Dodge Viper fan housed in a Cal Auto custom fabricated fan shroud amplifies airflow. The jewel-like stainless steel fasteners found throughout the 1962 Impala. The transmission a T56 Tremec and the IRS rearend a Dutchman 9-inch Ford with 3.73 gears and 31-spline axles.
