I have had this for the last 26 years restoring it as close to originally made.
Now it is about time to re-home this exceptional product of the 1960's.
Now here is what she is equipped with:
The engine is original, totally rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. They did a good hot tank with all the bearings replaced; now it runs with 60 pounds of oil pressure. Idles with about 35 pounds oil pressure. Installed a NOS carburetor about 10,000 miles ago. Many other details like a stainless steel fuel line for safety plus the rubber hose was not stock.
There is a total of 3 gas tanks (2 were installed by either the dealer or
factory) one is the standard in the rear and 2 saddle tanks; they hold about 18
gallons each (if you can afford the gas today). Have them plugged, which is
easily unplugged. The saddle tanks were cleaned out and coated on the inside to prevent rusting.
The transmission is a 3 speed with overdrive that was rebuilt about 10.000
miles ago; the kick out solenoid was also checked and is working.
The radiator was also has a new core and is equipped with a push fan with
thermostatic control. Really works well in keeping the temperature down in the
engine area. Most of the time it runs slightly above 180 degrees, of course
this is Oregon.
Now on to the interior; it was professionally completely redone to closely match what was built. From the front new firewall to the back, it is all new. It was also done with high quality fabric and floor carpet. New break and clutch pedal rubber. Glove box is also new. New factory AM radio, found one new in the box with all the brackets and instructions.
The first rear seat was restored along with the period ash trays re-chromed.
The rear seat is not stock, it came out of one of my old vans. This seat will
pull out to make an almost queen size bed. Both seats are also recovered with
high quality matching covering. Both seats are easily taken out; they are both anchored with close to factory clamps.
Factory hubcaps along with a set of great condition moon period hubcaps The tires are new with less than 100 miles on them. All wheel rims were sand blasted then powder coated.
The engine 'dog house' is insulated to prevent excess heat and to deaden the
This van was restored to as close to factory made them. Have had it in three
local car shows, turned many heads and won a Trophy in every one. This is a
unique piece of Old Detroit rolling stock, and needs to be taken care of.
I have attempted to find another with all of the 'bling' with no results.
There are others out there and one even a museum showpiece but it is a 1995. To demonstrate how rare these are is the factory numbers combined with all the ones that have went to the dreaded crushers. That plus there was a train accident that destroyed some of these, have a photo on that sad event.
