1949 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan Needs a complete restoration. It’s about 85% complete and has been in Klamath Falls since at least 1963. No body rust-outs! Floor pans, trunk floor (including tire well) are all in excellent condition. The only patches needed are in the bottoms of the front fenders. (see picture). In 63 years, the car has never been totally re-painted and has only surface rust, which is removeable by sanding. The body dents are accessible for repair from behind. I can’t find “bondo” repairs.
The bright work is mostly stainless and in excellent condition (see pictures). The goddess and other potmetal parts, as well as the cloisonné Cadillac hood crest, have very few pitts, and their chrome plating is presentable for use, as-is. An extra grill is included.
The dash is complete, including the clock, radio and heater controls. I have installed a good steering wheel. Car has 4 correct wheels and 2 “Sombrero” hubcaps.
The engine block is a ’49 (stamped as such) and is standard bore size. The piston set is .040 OS (so block can be bored .040 and used with new rings. The crank is .010 under. Has a good cam, gears and chain. The heads are ’53 and will require complete rebuilding (these are better than the originals).
The transmission is a ’51 (which is also better because it has a fully automatic syncro reverse. The cover & Torus drive members are missing. The unit itself was operating when removed many years ago. The car comes with a complete engine O.H. gasket set (cost $210).
Most of the necessary restoration parts are available from vendors listed in Hemmings and The Self-Starter (Cadillac Club Magazine).
